Powering Progress – Suki becomes Kheda’s first and Gujarat’s third fully solar village.
Suki village in Kheda district, Gujarat, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming Kheda’s first and Gujarat’s third fully solar-powered village. This ambitious project was implemented by Jalark Solar Solution OPC Private Limited under the government’s Pradhanmantri Surya Gruh Yojana, a flagship program designed to make solar energy accessible and affordable for rural households. Each household in the village has been equipped with rooftop solar systems, providing families with stable, low-cost, and eco-friendly electricity.
This has ended the era of frequent power cuts and reduced reliance on costly grid supply. What makes the project unique is the active involvement of the villagers. They collectively contributed to fund solar installations for the temple and the dairy, two vital community institutions. The temple represents faith, while the dairy supports the livelihood of farmers. This contribution created a sense of pride and ownership among villagers, proving that development is strongest when the community takes part in it.
The success of Suki showcases the power of collaboration between government support, private expertise, and community participation. It stands as a model for how renewable energy can transform rural India while balancing sustainability, economy, and social progress.
The solar transformation of Suki has reshaped the village’s daily life and strengthened its economy, while fostering sustainability.
Households now enjoy reliable electricity, enabling uninterrupted study, smooth operation of appliances, and greater comfort. The temple, powered entirely by solar energy, continues to host rituals and festivals without disruption, blending tradition with sustainability. The dairy cooperative thrives with constant power, improving milk storage and processing, reducing costs, and increasing farmers’ incomes.
Environmentally, Suki’s carbon footprint has dropped, lowering reliance on diesel generators and preserving local natural resources.
Suki serves as a model for how rural villages can be fully solarized under central/state-government schemes. Key lessons offer a blueprint:
In recent years, new capacity across the solar value chain has become necessary to support the PV market’s growth. However, the capital required to establish and scale-up wafer, solar cell and solar module manufacturing facilities is considerable.
Together, these factors pose a serious challenge to sustainable operation and growth of global solar manufacturers.
